Start with access to the house
If the garage door has stopped, consider whether you have an ordinary authorized route into the house through another entrance. There may be two separate matters to discuss: access to the home and repair of the garage mechanism. Explain both at the beginning of the call so one is not mistaken for the other.
A key that will not turn in the garage-to-house door belongs in a home lock discussion. A large door that opens unevenly, stops partway or no longer responds belongs in a garage door repair discussion. Describe what you observed without trying to force either door.
Useful observations, from a little distance
For the garage door, say whether it is open, closed or stopped between the two. Mention any unusual movement or sound you noticed before it stopped. Keep people clear of a door that looks uneven or unstable, and leave springs, cables and lifting parts alone.
For the keyed entrance, describe whether the key enters fully, turns at all or appears damaged. Say whether the handle moves normally. These details help explain the request; they are not a diagnosis and do not mean a particular part has already been identified as faulty.
Use the address you need help at
Seagoville sits in southeast Dallas County, with Mesquite to the north and Dallas to the west. If you usually describe your location by a nearby city, check the street address before calling. A familiar area name can be helpful, but it does not replace the actual property location.
For work at another property, the Mesquite and Balch Springs pages offer their own practical starting points. At a rental home, have the responsible owner's or manager's approval in place for any lock change. Tell us about that arrangement along with the door problem.
