Who can approve the work?

Having a key, living at an address and being authorized to change its locks are not always the same thing. Before arranging work, identify the person responsible for the property and explain your role in the request.

If it is your home

Owners can begin with a list of the doors involved and the access they want to change. If another owner or responsible person is involved, settle who will approve the work and receive the keys. Explain any uncertainty when you call rather than leaving it for the visit.

If the hardware works and your goal is a different operating key, ask about rekeying suitable locks. If a door is unreliable as well, describe that separately. Permission to change access does not by itself tell anyone which repair or hardware change is appropriate.

If you rent or are calling for family

Contact the person responsible for maintenance or management before arranging a lock change. Ask how they want a request handled, who can approve the scope and whether any key handover needs to be arranged. A general guide cannot determine the requirements of your particular tenancy.

If you are helping a relative or meeting on their behalf, explain that relationship. Ask what verification and authorization will be needed before a visit. Do not assume that knowing the address or holding a spare key settles those questions.

If it is a workplace

A business owner, manager, tenant and building representative may have different responsibilities. For a shop or office door request, identify the person who can approve the work and keep their contact details available. Include the suite and exact door so the authorization refers to the right entrance.

A handover may also involve deciding who keeps access after the work. List the relevant doors and working keys, and ask how the proposed changes will be explained. Do not assume all entrances or equipment are included in one request.

Settle these points before agreeing

Ask what verification is needed, who can approve additional work and who will receive the completed explanation and keys. Confirm the price basis with that same responsible person. This is practical preparation, not a determination of anyone's legal rights.

The FAQ page covers common first-call questions. Call 469-899-8795 with the situation and your role, then confirm the appropriate next step and current availability. If authority is unresolved, speak with the relevant owner, manager or other responsible contact before making changes.
